Cody Hoesly specializes in complex commercial litigation and property disputes. He has litigated hundreds of cases, including bench and jury trials and appellate arguments, yet he guides every case with a strong, steady hand and a personal touch. Cody’s clients benefit from his unique combination of efficiency and thoroughness, and his dedication to thinking creatively to solve difficult problems. Among other attorneys, Cody enjoys a reputation for having a quick mind, deep knowledge of the law, and good humor.

Cody's experience includes eight-figure disputes for national and regional corporate clients as well as six- and seven-figure disputes for individual and corporate clients:

  • Business and Commercial Litigation: Extensive experience in almost all manner of business and commercial disputes, from breach of contract to business torts, insurance coverage, consumer class actions, employment, trusts and estates, antitrust, copyright, and more.

  • Real Estate Litigation: Representation of owners of residential and commercial property, as well as commercial landlords and tenants, in disputes over construction defects, construction liens, easements, evictions, ejectments, breaches of lease, breaches of contract, and tenant bankruptcies.

  • Financial Institutions Litigation: Representation of lenders and loan servicers in debt collection and foreclosure actions, including in bankruptcy, as well as actions brought by borrowers, guarantors, and others alleging lender liability claims, wrongful foreclosure claims, and claims for violation of federal and state consumer protection statutes.

  • Investor Litigation: Recovered millions of dollars in settlements for clients who were victims of investment scams, or breaches of fiduciary duty by business partners and corporate directors and officers.

  • Appeals: Represented clients in dozens of appeals in the Ninth Circuit and state appellate courts of Oregon and Washington in a wide variety of matters, from commercial litigation to personal injury, political law, and criminal law.

Cody is recognized in Oregon Super Lawyers and in Best Lawyers in Oregon for Commercial Litigation, Securities Litigation, Banking and Finance Litigation, Antitrust Litigation, and Appellate Practice. He also serves and has served on numerous law-related committees, from the Oregon Law Commission to chairing the Oregon State Bar Securities Regulation Section and Appellate Practice Section. Cody regularly teaches CLEs and publishes in legal journals on a variety of topics, from appellate and motion practice to securities and tort law.

Before entering private practice, Cody clerked for the Honorable Rives Kistler of the Oregon Supreme Court and the Honorable Henry Breithaupt of the Oregon Tax Court.

In his spare time, Cody enjoys family, friends, travel, sports, art, and games.  Cody also speaks German proficiently.
